Second post for today, so make sure to scroll down to see the first one! (I'm trying to catch up with my posting of all the projects I made during the summer and early September.)
I like to try to figure out other ways to use all my dies rather than the intended use because I can get more use out of them and more bang for my buck. Here is an example of that. I made this box last month when I made this. It's the same concept. I'm still thinking about what to fill this box with...probably more spiced nuts or brittle. I think some small cookies, like shortbread (4 stacks of 2) would probably fit nicely. Hershey Nuggets would fit in it too. Mmmm... homemade English Toffee! Or how about homemade sugar cookies cut in leaf shapes?! (That's for you Edith, the Cookie Lady! ;))
I started with the Bigz A2 card die that comes with the Curly Label die. I used the Circle Movers & Shapers die from the Holiday Windows die set for the window.
Here's how to make it:
1. Box cover piece: Center the Circle die at 3/4" from the score line on the metal platform of the die. Then place a piece of 4-1/4" x 9-1/2" card stock on top of the die, lining up one end of the card to the edge of the die blade at the metal plate end of the die. Die cut the box cover. I used More Mustard card stock here.
2. Stamp design now. I used the Falling Leaves stamp set with Dusty Durango, Rich Razzleberry, and Soft Suede Classic Inkpads.
3. Next, you will add three more score lines going the same direction as the one provided by the die. Starting at the end with the circle cut out, score one line at 1", 4-1/2", and 9". You will have a half-inch section left to use as the glue tab.
4. Cut a piece of Window Sheet to 3-3/8" x 4". Adhere this to the back side of the window section using Sticky Strip. I find that covering this entire area helps the sliding box part slide in and out without getting hung up on the edges of the Window Sheet.
5. Apply Sticky Strip just inside the score line on the glue tab, fold all score lines and assemble box cover piece.
6. Tag: Punch a 1-1/4" circle from More Mustard card stock. Stamp the Happy Thanksgiving circle stamp in Dustry Durango Classic Ink on Very Vanilla card stock and punch out with the 1" circle punch. Adhere this piece with Snail Adhesive to the More Mustard circle. Stamp the Happy Thanksgiving circle stamp again, this time in More Mustard Classic Ink on Very Vanilla card stock. Punch out the acorn in the center with the 1/2" circle punch. Adhere this to the Dusty Durango layer with a Stampin' Dimensional. Punch a 1/16" hole in the tag and thread through a 4" piece of Linen Thread. Wrap one end of box cover with Dusty Durango Polka Dot grosgrain ribbon and tie a "knot" bow. (By "knot" bow, I mean to tie a knot and trim the ends so it looks like a bow. It's not really a bow, but a knot...so I call it a "knot" bow.)
7. Slider box piece: Using card stock in any of the colors used (Dusty Durango, Rich Razzleberry, Soft Suede, or More Mustard) cut a piece that is 6" x 5-7/16". I used Chocolate Chip card stock, although it wasn't one of the colors I used. (Who knows why I did that. lol)
8. Score at 1" from the edge on all four sides. Cut on score line on both 6" sides up to the perpendicular score line to create the corner glue tabs. Apply Sticky Strip to these glue tabs.
9. Using the 1" circle punch, punch out a little less than half a circle from each end to use as a finger pull to open the box.
10. Assemble slider box piece by folding on score lines and adhering glue tabs to the inside of the box sides.
11. Slide box into cover....Finished! That wasn't so hard. Now that you know how to do it, go make another one! :D
By the way, you can purchase ALL of the supplies I used for this from my online Stampin' Up store!
